One of the biggest mistakes the young entrepreneur makes is thinking he or she knows it all (that and thinking he doesn’t have to pay dues). The hardest lesson I’ve had to learn is that even a genius needs guidance from time to time.
Find a mentor that can help you along the way. Hell… find a few mentors! You may not always agree with everything they say, but its the conversation and help thinking about you next move that’s important.
Whatever you’re into, find a mentor with experience in that area – investments, new business ventures, school, whatever. Find someone you’re not in competition with, who has experience good or bad, and ask them questions. One of my best mentors has had a number of business failures that he regularly shares with me as an encouragement not to make the same mistakes.
The ability to learn from other’s mistakes and experiences is key for today’s leaders. It’s that simple… Find Mentors!!
